As Iva notes: The archipelago is beautiful... but is that enough?

A thriller featuring a beautiful couple in a struggle against the Polish mafia. Arne (Stefan Sauk) saves Irena (Izabella Scorupco) from drowning and is unintentionally drawn into a bloody tale that claims many lives.

The story is messy, but the archipelago is beautiful.

Irena turns out to have a criminal past and is a master of several languages—including, as it happens, perfect Swedish. Arne finds himself gradually drawn to this unpredictable and money-hungry woman, who uses her beauty to turn the heads of every man in her path.

Tomas von Brömssen plays a perpetually drunken captain on a vessel intended to sink with its "treasure" so it can be salvaged later.

Editor's Note (2026): The Diver is a curious relic of the Swedish action wave at the turn of the millennium. Note Iva’s trademark dry sarcasm: by pointing out the "perfect Swedish" of the criminal characters and praising the scenery over the plot, she is subtly critiquing the film’s lack of realism. It is a classic "Iva burn," punctuated by a definitive one-paw rating.
